The method involves recording measured values during measurement of characteristics e.g. transmission characteristics, in a power train of a vehicle, where the characteristics are determinable from the measured values. The recorded measured values are evaluated during the measurement, where a signal is outputted during satisfying a fixed interruption criterion. A reached accuracy of the characteristic is sequentially determined from the recorded measured values during the measurement, where the determined accuracy is compared with the necessary accuracy.
