<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that noise is increased by the resonance of a cover liable to occur when gas is discharged in a muffler chamber due to the softness of material of a cover worked by a press and smoothness of a surface shape thereof although the muffler chamber is formed of the cover to reduce noise produced by discharged gas of a conventional rotary compressor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A rotary compressor includes a cover 20 mounted on an upper bearing 8 to form a muffler chamber 21. A recess 30 is provided to a surface opposite to the muffler chamber 21 of the cover 20 so that the rigidity of the cover 20 is enhanced by work hardening and a resonance frequency is changed.
