<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high efficiency of data keeping in a shared storage without making a user recognize the mechanism. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A shared storage system includes a storage 10 to be shared and used by a plurality of users and a monitoring control means 20 for determining the identity of the content of files in the storage 10 in a prescribed timing, and for, when there exists a plurality of files whose content is the same, integrating entity files having the entities of the files into one, and for changing all the files whose content is determined to be identical or all the files excluding one to the format of virtual files for referring to the entity files for storage.
