INPUT DEVICE AND INPUT METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an input device and an input method for determining whether a right or left hand of a user is used using only a contact information detection part which can be operated by a plurality of fingers of the user.

SOLUTION: The input device configured to operate equipment with fingers placed on an operation face includes: a contact information detection part for detecting a plurality of coordinates of contact between the operation face and the plurality of fingers; a contact information history storage part for storing the detected contact coordinates; a related ID creation part for assigning ID to each stored contact coordinate; a gesture recognition part for recognizing a gesture on the basis of the history of each contact coordinate with the same ID assigned thereto; a right/left hand determination part for determining whether the finger placed on the operation face belongs to the right hand or the left hand on the basis of each contact coordinate stored in the contact information history storage part; and a command transmission part for transmitting a predetermined command to the equipment on the basis of the recognition result of the gesture recognition part and the determination result of the right/left hand determination part.
