PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening and closing device with a center column in a simple structure, which enables the smooth opening and closing of a shutter curtain by shortening the discontinuous section of a center column guide rail. SOLUTION: In the opening and closing device with a plurality of shutter curtains connected and the center column 3 provided between the shutter curtains, horizontal rails 8 are installed facing with each other along lintels 17, a freely travelling travel carriage 21 is provided through travel wheels 11 travelling on the horizontal rail, the travel carriage has a base side undergoing the suspension of the center column and a base side section 25 provided with the travel wheels, the base side section extends from the base section in the center column moving direction to form a passage for the shutter curtain between the base side sections, and shutter curtain guides 26, 28 are provided on the tip inside of the base side section.
