<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To swiftly change the disposition of clerks for each checkout counter according to the situation of crowdedness with customers because assistant clerks sometimes help checkout work in the checkout counters according to the crowdedness with customers and it is difficult for the clerks to smoothly move from one checkout counter to another checkout counter when a plurality of checkout counters are arranged parallel. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The checkout counter 101 includes: a top board 102 bent in a shape of a dog leg as seen from above; a linear first top board part 102a constituting a part of the top board 102 and having a scanning area 131 with an upright scanner 161 on the upper surface; and a linear second top board part 102b constituting a remaining part of the top board 102 and bent and connected to the first top board part 102a. The second top board part has a bag packing area 132 on the upper surface, on which a bag hanging unit 201 is disposed to hold a shopping bag 301 storing scanned merchandise articles in the opened state.
