<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bench cut construction method for suppressing the number of surplus drilled holes for protecting a wedge liner and a tip part of wedge to the minimum extent. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In this capping bench cut construction method, holes for inserting the wedge liner and the wedge are drilled at the predetermined distance from a tip fringe of bench toward a back part, at the predetermined interval along the tip fringe, and up to a position being deeper by at least 0.3 meters or more than thickness of a rock bed from an upper face of bench to fill the drilled holes with filler and apply capping on the holes. Next, cracks are sequentially formed in the rock bed from upper parts of the holes positioned at the tip fringe of bench up to a section having depth close to length of the wedge to collapse the rock bed along the tip fringe. The holes on which capping is applied can be used as the holes for inserting the wedge liner and the wedge without causing waste use of the whole length of the holes until the collapse of the bench is completed.
