PURPOSE: A control device of a roughing mill and a control method thereof are provided to rapidly restore a roughing mill as an operator easily grasps the failure cause of a roughing mill. CONSTITUTION: A control method of a roughing mill comprises following steps. A billet is guided to a rolling process from a furnace of a continuous caster for rolling the billet(S20). The trip of an electric panel supplying power to a motor which operating a press roller for a rolling process is sensed(S30). If trip is detected, the power supplied to the motor is blocked after billet loaded in the rolling process is discharged(S40).
