<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission capable of reducing engaging elements to reduce its size and simplify its structure. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This automatic transmission includes first to third planetary gears 5, 6, 7. A sun gear Sf is connected to a sun gear Sr to compose a first connected body Sf, Sr; a ring gear Rf is connected to a sun gear Sm to compose a second connected body Rf, Sm; and a ring gear Rm is connected to a carrier Cr to compose a third connected body Rm, Cr. A carrier Cf is connected to an input shaft 2, and the third connected body Rm, Cr is connected to an output gear 3. The automatic transmission further includes a first engaging element C1 connecting the carrier Cf to a carrier Cm, a second engaging element C2 connecting the carrier Cf to a carrier Cm, a third engaging element B1 fixing the first connected body Sf, Sr to a transmission case 1, a fourth engaging element B2 fixing the second connected body Rf, Sm to the transmission case 1, and a fifth engaging element B3 fixing the carrier Cm to the transmission case 1.
