<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to convey a driven body over a long stroke without using a long guide rail. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The multistage-structure actuator 1 comprises a plurality of driving units 10A to 10D each of which includes two ball screws 11A, 11B. In the two ball screws 11A, 11B, nuts 5, 5 are driven reversely to each other. The nuts 5, 5 of adjacent driving units 10A to 10D are mutually coupled. Further, each of the driving units 10A to 10D is mounted with a guide rail 2. A plurality of guide members 3 for each supporting the guide rail are arranged in a base B separately from one another in each of the driving units 10A to 10D in their axial directions. Further, each guide rail 2 is allowed to be sequentially transferred to a plurality of the guide members 3 in association with the movement of each of the driving units 10A to 10D.
