PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phenol resin which has a low softening point, a high flowability when molding and excellent molding characteristics, and further which can reduce the amount of a softening agent used for obtaining a softened product. SOLUTION: The phenol resin contains a compound represented by formula (1).
