PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the understanding of a proportional relationship between these variables by confirming the proportional relationship between other variables left behind without being erased. SOLUTION: A function calculator as an apparatus for arithmetic operation includes: a RAM for storing at least one proportional symbolic expression, in which both sides respectively consist of one item, including at least one variable; an input part for input, as an input expression, an arbitrary mathematical expression including at least one variable based on a user operation; and a CPU for displaying registered proportional symbolic expressions in the form of a list when any variable included in the input expression matches any variable included in the registered proportional symbolic expression stored in the RAM. The input part selects, based on the user operation, the arbitrary registered proportional symbolic expression among the registered proportional symbolic expressions displayed in the form of a list. The CPU carries out the expression deformation of the registered proportional symbolic expression so that one side of the selected registered proportional symbolic expression become equivalent to the input expression, and displays the other side of the registered proportional symbolic expression whose expression has been deformed.
