<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging member that enables reproduction of good images free of any image defects (in particular, with occurrence of horizontal lines suppressed), even when an electrophotographic apparatus to be used is the electrophotographic apparatus which can be set to a plurality of different process speeds. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The charging member is provided with one or more cover layers on a support. Of the cover layers, a cover layer serving as the surface layer of the charging member contains high-molecular compound particles, and when the average particle diameter of the high-molecular compound particles is represented by A [μm], 2≤A≤50 is satisfied and the range of particle size distribution of the high-molecular compound particles is more than 0 [μm] to 7A [μm] or less.
