The method involves detecting a measured value of pneumatic pressure in tires (2a-2d), and detecting an actual and/or future distance of a vehicle (1) i.e. motor vehicle, to a service station and/or detecting an operating condition of the vehicle, where the condition is in connection with a service process. A warning signal is output when the measured value falls below a preset threshold value, and the actual or future distance of the vehicle to the service station falls below the preset threshold value, where the detected operating condition corresponds to a preset operating condition. An independent claim is also included for a monitoring unit for monitoring pneumatic pressure in a tire of a vehicle.
