A flotation collector comprises an alkylamine and from 0.5 to 2% by weight of an emulsifier being a quaternary ammonium salt of the formula R1R2R3R4N-X, wherein X is a halogen atom and the four radicals R1R2R3R4 are alkyl radicals two or more of which may be the same with at least one of the radicals having the same number of carbon atoms as an alkyl radical of the alkylamine. If desired, the collector may contain a solvent such as an alcohol. In an example for separating a calamine-bearing ore containing 7.2 to 7.3% zinc, the alkylamine used was an N-alkylpropylene-diamine of the formula R1-NH-(CH2)3-NH2, the monvalent radical R1 having 16 to 18 carbon atoms (tallow diamine), and the quarternary ammonium salt was dimethyl-dioctodecylammonium chloride in an amount of 1% by weight with respect to the alkylamine.
|
