<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an image display device for a vehicle capable of displaying a captured image signal 5a, by a camera 1 for the less visible portion of a driver around the vehicle, on a display device 20, even when a microcomputer 15 for display is in trouble. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The captured image signal 5a from the camera 1 reaches a switching IC 21 via a periphery monitoring ECU 6 as an external image display signal 22. The switching IC 21 displays either an internal image signal 18 via the microcomputer 15 for display or the external image display signal 22 on the display device 20. A switching control signal for the switching IC 21 is input from the periphery monitoring ECU 6 to the switching IC 21 based on a driver's operation signal 13, at least via neither a multiple communication line 7 nor the microcomputer 15 for display, but via a direct transmission line 26.
