<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure suitable exposure and dynamic ranges while suppressing generation of luminance differences among images composing a panoramic image. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Photometric values of respective images obtained from a plurality of camera units whose exposure condition can be changed are calculated and a maximum photometric value Emax and a minimum photometric value Emin are calculated. A dynamic range expansion rate (DR expansion rate) is calculated based on the maximum photometric value Emax and the minimum photometric value Emin. Then, an exposure condition corresponding to the maximum photometric value Emax is uniformly set for all camera units and all the camera units are allowed to simultaneously execute image pickup operation. Gamma correction processing using a gamma curve corresponding to the DR expansion rate is applied to respective images obtained from the camera units by the image pickup operation to expand the dynamic ranges of respective images.
