PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for measuring the length and width of a steel material, using a vision camera are provided to accurately measure the length and width of a steel material even if the steel material is transferred at an incline. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for measuring the length and width of a steel material comprises a laser emitting unit(100), a camera receiving unit(200), and a shape analysis and processing unit. The laser emitting unit emits laser beams to the right and left corners of a steel material(1), wherein the laser beam is directed in the diagonal direction. The camera receiving unit is installed on the lower or upper side of the laser emitting unit and receives the laser beam reflected from the steel material as an image. The shape analysis and processing unit calculates the length and width of the steel material by analyzing the image obtained by the camera receiving unit and determines the feed angle or shape error of the steel material.
