PURPOSE: A driving method of light source blocks, a controller board and a display device thereof are provided to provide a local dimming in a bright image and a dark image by extracting a block representative value to range from a block mean value to a block maximum value at each light source block by using a parameter for the luminance of one entire screen. CONSTITUTION: A video signal input unit(100) outputs an video signal after receiving it from the outside. A block representative value extracting unit(200) extracts a block mean value and a block maximum value of each light source of a backlight unit from a video signal. A block representative extraction unit extracts a parameter corresponding to the luminance of one entire screen by analyzing a video signal by a frame unit. The block representative extraction unit extracts a block representative value to range from a block mean value to a block maximum value corresponding to a parameter. A dimming level determination unit(300) generates a dimming signal by determining the dimming level of each light source from the block representative value. A pixel signal processing unit(500) outputs a pixel signal corresponding to a video signal to a display unit for displaying an image. A dimming signal output unit(600) outputs the dimming signal to the backlight unit.
