PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a communication mode control method with which efficient data communication corresponding to a variation in an interference amount at a base station is made possible. SOLUTION: Base stations 4a, 4b and/or a base station control device 3 determine a communication mode to be set to a mobile communication terminal 2 on the basis of an interference amount during each communication mode inside the cells of the base stations 4a, 4b and/or its communication characteristics and a signal indicative of a communication data amount reported from the mobile communication terminal 2, and the mobile communication terminal 2 is notified of the determined communication mode from the base stations 4a, 4b.
