<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure capable of restraining generation of projected objects such as whiskers and hillocks on an anode electrode in a simple structure and restraining deterioration of voltage-resistant characteristics and generation of electric discharge, and a flat surface type display device having the structure. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the flat surface type display device wherein a cathode panel having a plane preparing a plurality of electron discharge ranges and an anode panel having a plane preparing a plurality of phosphor ranges are opposed with each other by having a distance between the plane preparing the electron discharge ranges and the plane preparing phosphor ranges, each of the plurality of phosphor ranges is covered by the anode electrode, and the anode electrode has a laminated structure wherein three layers of an aluminum layer (first layer), an aluminum oxide layer (second layer), and an aluminum layer (third layer) are laminated in that order from the phosphor range side.
