PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately synchronize the timing between respective scenes of a movie and subtitle display when subtitles based upon subtitle data in a server on a network are displayed by a portable device in a movie theater or the like. SOLUTION: A management device 6 for movies for showing start time or the like and a wireless LAN base unit 12 are connected to the network 2 to which a subtitle server 3 and an NTP server 1 are connected. In a master portable device MPD and a slave portable device SPD for displaying subtitles, their watches are synchronized by the NTP server 1 in common with the management device 6. The master portable device MPD sets the showing start time and holds the showing start time in the subtitle server 3, and the slave portable device SPD reads the showing start time and also downloads a set of subtitle data from the subtitle server 3. At the showing start time, the management device 6 starts a movie showing operation, and the slave portable device SPD starts a subtitle display operation to accurately synchronize the timing between the respective scenes of the movie and the subtitle display.
