PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve mechanism control device of an internal combustion engine capable of starting control in the further proper timing. SOLUTION: An ECU 21 estimates oil viscosity based on a use frequency of a variable valve timing mechanism 18 by using a corresponding map M1. The ECU 21 calculates delay time T1 based on soak time estimated by using an internal timer and the oil temperature measured by an oil temperature sensor 26 by using a corresponding map M2, and calculates delay time T2 based on the soak time and oil viscosity by using a corresponding map M3, and calculates delay time Td by adding up these delay times T1 and T2. The ECU 21 starts control of the variable valve timing mechanism 18 when elapsed time is the delay time Td or more after an engine 11 is started. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
