<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator system enhanced in transporting capacity and enabling a passenger to go to a destination floor in a sector by using an elevator even if a group which shares the sector is out of service due to a failure or maintenance and inspection. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The elevator system controls two different-type groups of elevators composed of two cars of elevators operated among a plurality of floors and installed with car control devices, respectively. The two car control devices are equipped with operation control means for performing a series of operations composed of respective operation phases. A group management control device for controlling the respective groups is equipped with destination floor input means provided for the respective floors in a sector to be served for inputting a destination floor of a passenger, a storing means for associating a departure floor of a destination floor call, a destination floor, and their response states with each other and for storing them, an assignment means for assigning a predetermined call to each car, and an assignment switching means for switching the assignment of the call to a call of an operation phase after being changed every time the operation phase is changed.
