A cylinder apparatus (1) comprising: a cylinder (2); a piston (3) which is slidably inserted in the cylinder (2); a rod (4) which is inserted in the cylinder (2) and is connected to the piston (3); a rod-side chamber (5) and a piston-side chamber (6) which are provided in the cylinder (2) and are partitioned by the piston (3); a tank (7); a first on-off valve (9) which is provided at any part on a first passage (8) that connects between the rod-side chamber (5) and the piston-side chamber (6); a second on-off valve (11) which is provided at any part on a second passage (10) that connects between the piston-side chamber (6) and the tank (7); and a pump (12) which supplies a liquid material to the rod-side chamber (5).
