<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for studless tires which combines good ice and snowy road performance with abrasion resistance, and to provide a high-performance studless tire using the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The rubber composition for studless tires includes a calcium carbonate-based particle (its average particle diameter is preferably 200 μm or less) and an acid-modified polymer and/or an epoxy-modified polymer, wherein the content of the acid-modified polymer and/or the epoxy-modified polymer is 0.5-40 pts.mass based on 100 pts.mass of the calcium carbonate-based particle.
