<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for melting glass where bubble defects in glass are reduced by containing helium in molten glass efficiently and where glass articles having high bubble quality are obtained. <P>SOLUTION: The method for melting glass including a step to supply a helium-containing gas into an upper atmosphere of the molten glass is characterized by that a low ceiling region having 0.3 m or less of the height from the liquid level of the molten glass to the ceiling of the upper atmosphere is prepared and the helium-containing gas is supplied into the low ceiling region. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
