Metal is cut into lengths by moving it against a stop 23, Fig. 1, and then dividing it with a fusion type cutter 30. Strip metal is conveyed on endless bands 13 running around motor driven pulleys 11, 12. A bridge 20 adjustable longitudinally of the strip by lead screw 17 and motor 26, carries a rod 21 and rotary sleeve 22 mounting a number of stops 23 which are moved downwardly by a magnetic switch 25 so as to be engaged by the leading end of the strip. This stops the feed of the strip and the cutter 30 is then moved transversely by a lead screw 32 driven by motor (33), Fig. 2 (not shown). At the end of its travel the motor (33) is set automatically for reverse movement on the next out. The cutter may be a laser beam, plasma jet or flame torch.</p> |
