<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication device capable of achieving high reliability while maintaining a device configuration and a control method compact and simple. <P>SOLUTION: The communication device includes: a plurality of working units (1-1 to 1-N); and a protection unit (2). The plurality of working units and the protection unit comprise a plurality of working circuit modules (12-1-1 to 12-1-n, 12-2-1 to 12-2-n, ..., 12-N-1 to 12-N-n, 22-1 to 22-n), and a protection circuit module (13-1-1, 13-1-2, 13-2-1, 13-2-2, ..., 13-N-1, 13-N-2, 23-1, 23-2).
