METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR GROUP HANDOVER IN WIRELESS NETWORK

A method and apparatus for group handover in wireless network are provided. At least two mobile stations are formed a mobile group, when a request for handover from the mobile stations in the mobile group is received at the first time, the current access station in service begins to transmit the information about all the mobile stations in the mobile group in a batch mode to the object access station in handover preparing phase of the mobile station, after receiving the response of the object access station, the current access station in service transmits a handover response to the mobile station which sent the handover request firstly, when the other mobile stations in the mobile group execute handover, the current access station in service does not retransmit the information which has been transmitted in the handover preparing phase. The signal overhead during the group handover and the duration of the group handover have been reduced observably by applying the scheme, so the interrupt time in mobile station service is reduced, and the compatibility with the existing wireless network can be realized.
