The device has a retardation mechanism (250) for selective handling of individual signature (400) to form a signature grouping and a folding cutter (10) is arranged downstream the retardation mechanism. A signature grouping is arranged parallel to the transport direction and a folding mechanism is arranged below the folding cutter. The folding cutter moves between two positions. An independent claim is included for a method for generating a longitudinal fold in signature.
