<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manage all disk storage units over a file or a volume, in a library device having a portable disk storage unit storing a plurality of optical disks. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When a series of logic storage region over a plurality of disk storage units 3, for example, a file or a volume is recorded and generated in a disk storage unit 3 in which a plurality of storage media 2 are stored, the whole recordable capacity of the storage media 2 in the disk storage unit 3 is increased by utilizing a unit cooperation discrimination piece indicating that it relates over a plurality of disk storage units 3 instead of a cooperation discrimination piece indicating that it relates over a plurality of storage media 2, while it can be managed whether the whole disk storage units 3 relating over a file and a volume exist in the library device 1 or not.
