MAGNETIC DISK APPARATUS AND MAGNETIC DISK ACCESS CONTROL METHOD

<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk apparatus which recognizes a servo pattern area in a magnetically correct manner and thereby normally performs disk access control. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The magnetic disk apparatus A includes a magnetic disk 1 provided with a data recording area D and the servo-pattern area S. The data recording area D includes a non-magnetic area 10 in which magnetic parts 11 are scattered, and the servo-pattern area S includes a plurality of magnetic parts 11' each having a larger area than the magnetic parts 11 in the data recording area D. The magnetic disk apparatus also includes: a magnetic head 2 which reciprocates in the radial direction of a magnetic disk 1 while applying a magnetization direction to the magnetic part 11 of the data recording area D and reading the magnetization direction of the magnetic parts 11 and 11' in the data recording area D and the servo-pattern area S; and a magnetization means 22 for applying a magnetic field to the magnetic parts 11' in the servo-pattern area S for equalizing magnetization directions of the magnetic parts in the servo-pattern area before the magnetic head 2 starts to read the servo-pattern area S.
