The method involves feeding a flat material web in a machine direction, and applying a separating cut in the web along the machine direction for forming two flat material web sections. The web sections are arranged over each other or the web is folded so that the overlapped web sections are formed. A setting element (4) is formed by implementing another separating cut in one of the web sections. A connected laminate is folded about a folding line (8) running in the machine direction, and elongate sections are formed by implementing the separating cuts transverse to the machine direction. An independent claim is also included for an envelope comprising a folding line.
