Supported nickel hydrogenation catalyst

Aromatics e.g. toluene and xylenes are hydrogenated using a nickel catalyst supported on a thermostable carrier e.g. Aerosil, most of the nickel particles are 150 A, ca 53A in size. The catalysts show improved hydrogenation activity e.g. 831 mmol. H2/g. Ni per hour for toluene and 526 mmH2/g Ni/hr.p. xylene.
