Disclosed is a compound of formula I, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein X and XÆ may form a ring as shown, and wherein the other substituents are as described in the specification. Also disclosed is the use of the compound as an inhibitor of a serine protease, such as HCV NS3 protease. Also disclosed is a method of eliminating or reducing HCV contamination of a biological sample or medical or laboratory equipment comprising contacting the object with a composition containing the compound.
