<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a boundary between a unrecorded region and a recorded region in a disk type medium quickly and accurately. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When a power adjusting means determines an address for OPC, the following controls are performed: first control for causing an optical pickup to seek a region inner than an OPC region, second control for controlling an objective lens to move until a position of an unrecorded region is detected across a predetermined number of tracks from a position at which seek is performed in the first control, and third control for controlling the objective lens to follow the track until a boundary between the unrecorded region and a recorded region is detected from a position of the unrecorded region detected by the second control.
