<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intercommunication system whose master unit is made portable and rechargeable, and by which intercommunication can be made between a slave unit and a master unit via a charging receptacle, even under the condition of the master unit being detached from the charging receptacle. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The master unit is equipped with a rechargeable battery that serves as an electrical power supply for the master unit. There is provided a charging receptacle that incorporates a charging section for charging the rechargeable battery and is installed inside a house and detachably holds the master unit. Wired electrical connections are made between the slave unit and the charging receptacle, and wireless electrical connections are made between the master unit and the charging receptacle. The charging receptacle and the master unit are equipped with a transmitting and receiving section so as to perform exchange of communications between the slave unit and the master unit via the charging receptacle.
