<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device, its processing method, and a program, for improving an analysis capability when performing pre-scanning. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image reader reads image data from a recording medium by optically scanning an original table by first reading operation and second reading operation for performing reading with higher resolution than the first reading operation in succession to the first reading operation, analyzes the image data read, and updates a parameter used for analyzing the image data read in the first reading operation after the second time onward on the basis of a result of analysis of the image data read in the second reading operation.
