Mechanism is intended for dusting items of food with bread crumbs or the like. It comprises a frame carrying a supply hopper and an endless belt to move the items along a path extending below an outlet opening of the hopper. An (inclined) perforated plate is arranged below the outlet such that the granular material flows in a direction opposite to the belt movement before it is deposited on the items. The plate may be oscillated by a vibrator unit. The perforations pref. consist of slots at righ angles to the direction which may be provided with oppositely inclined guide strips at the underside of the plate. Used for dusting items of food with bread crumbs etc. The arrangement ensures that the coarser material drops on the items first so that adhesion to the items, which are coated with e.g. egg white, is not impaired by fine dust.
