PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent leakage of data from a disk after disconnected from a data processing system. SOLUTION: A disk apparatus stores, at a predetermined position in the apparatus, invalidation information for disabling read of data from a disk in the disk apparatus when the disk apparatus should be disconnected from a data processing system because of a failure. Thereafter, when power is turned on, the disk apparatus determines whether the invalidation information is stored at the predetermined position in the disk apparatus.
