<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus where a cleaning member is satisfactorily cleaned to prevent cleaning property for an electrifying roller by the cleaning member from lowering, thereby maintaining electrifying property of the electrifying roller over a long term. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An electrifying roller 21 and a cleaning roller 22 removing a foreign matter on a surface of the electrifying roller 21 are provided in electrifiers 2a to 2d. When an image is not formed, first bias V1 and second bias V2 having the same polarity are applied to the electrifying roller 21 and the cleaning roller 22, and also the revolving speed of the cleaning roller 22 is made higher than when an image is formed, so as to collect the foreign matter removed by the cleaning roller 22 to a photoreceptor drum 1a through the electrifying roller 21, whereby the cleaning roller 22 is cleaned.
