<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoelectric material which has an adequate performance index ZT and output factor PF, has superior thermoelectric properties in a low-temperature region, and is superior in terms of both environmental compatibility and cost performance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The thermoelectric material is formed from an intermetallic compound that has a half-Heusler type crystal structure in which a part of Sb of FeNbSb is replaced with Sn, and that is represented by the chemical formula of FeNbSb<SB>1-X</SB>Sn<SB>X</SB>(0.03≤X≤0.10). The method for manufacturing the thermoelectric material includes the steps of: weighing Fe, Nb, Sb and Sn according to each stoichiometric ratio, melting the mixture and making the melt react to produce a first ingot of the intermetallic compound; determining a difference of mass between a gross mass of Fe, Nb, Sb and Sn and the mass of the first ingot; and adding Sb of the mass equal to the difference of the mass into the first ingot, melting the mixture and making the melt react to produce a second ingot of the intermetallic compound.
