<p>High-solids-content latex which may be expanded to give a stable foam comprises at least 55wt.% of a non-volatile material which is dispersed, in form of latex particles, in an aq. phase, and consists of a high mol. (co)polymer derived from 30-100wt.% of an aliphatic conjugated 4-8 C diene and 0-70% of at least one comonomer. The aq. phase contains less than 6wt.% w.r.t. polymer of a polymsn.-promoting emulsifier comprising (1) an alkali-metal salt of an (alkoxy)alkylsulphate or alkoxyalkylphosphate (critical micelle concn. 0.002-0.15%) or (2) an alkali metal salt of sulphosuccinic acid or an amino-deriv. of this acid, these acids having a hydrocarbon substnt. linked to an O- or N-atom; or a partial alkali metal salt of N-alkaly-beta-iminodicarboxylic acid; the salt (2) having critical micelle concn. 0.01-1.0%. The emulsifier system ensures high polymsn. rate and high reactor productivity. High solids content enables prior art agglomeration operation to be dispensed with.</p> |
