1459047 Isomerizing xylenes SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 18 March 1974 [19 March 1973] 11890/74 Heading C5E [Also in Division B1] Xylenes are isomerized in the presence of fluorided and/or chlorided platinum on alumina which have been reactivated by contact with with an inert gas together with 0À1-21 vol. per cent O 2 at 700-900‹ F. to remove carbonaceous deposits, contact with 0À001-10 vol. per cent of a volatile fluorine compound and 1-60 vol. per cent H 2 O in a carrier gas at 800-1000‹ F. until the catalyst fluoride content is 1À6-2À0 wt. per cent, and reduction with a hydrogen-containing gas. The catalyst may be chlorided between the removal of the carbonaceous material and the fluoridation. Examples describe the treatment of a feedstock comprising ethylbenzene, p-xylene, m-xylene and o-xylene at 800‹ F. and an H 2 : aromatic molar ratio of 10 to remove ethylbenzene and increase the p-xylene content. |
