<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus in which various patterns for test used when verifying operation of a component in the apparatus can be generated. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A line counter 334 counts a main scanning synchronization signal SH and generates an output signal V_ON based on the counted value and setting information held in a register 331. A pixel counter 335 performs the count-up with reference to a pattern generation reference signal sent by a horizontal synchronization detection unit 333 and generates output signals H_ON and H_CNT based on the counted value and the setting information held in the register 331. A calculation circuit 336 generates the pattern based on the setting information held in the register 331, the output signal V_ON from the line counter 334, and the output signals H_ON and H_CNT from the pixel counter 335. A rearrangement unit 337 rearranges an arrangement of pixel data in a main scanning direction to the pattern generated by the calculation circuit 336 based on the setting information held in the register 331.
