Optical Fiber for Wavelength Division Multiplexing

Dispersion shifted optical fiber including a core and a clad suitable for use in wavelength division multiplex systems. The fiber can have an attenuation at 1550nm less than 0.25dB/km, a cut off wavelength of less than 1.40 mu m, and a dispersion slope less than 0.15ps/(nm<2>-km). In order to avoid nonlinear effects (as four-wave-mixing) the working wavelength is at a point where the fiber has a residual dispersion of about 3ps/nm-km and not at the zero dispersion point.
