The apparatus linearises with A-D convertor (4) which converts an analog signal value e.g. a temperature output by a measurement value generator, into a digital signal value. The device has a shift circuit (2) and a controller (3) with which the analog signal value, before each repetition of one of N conversion cycles in which the A-D conversion is carried out, is shifted by a predetermined value (V). The apparatus has a memory (5) for storing the digital signal values generated in the N conversion cycles, from which the resulting digital signal value is formed. The dimensions of the shift circuit are such that the shift value (V) is greater than a maximum non-linear region to be reduced in the useful conversion region of the A-D convertor.
