<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable surface crackings or internal flaws of a workpiece to be easily pressed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An anvil 1 for hot forging is used for forging the workpiece 2 by carrying out the forging reduction of the workpiece 2 with an anvil body 3. A plurality of arc-shaped uneven parts 7 for restraining the workpiece 2 and applying the forging reduction by the anvil body 3 are arranged at the facing surface 6 of the anvil body 3 facing the workpiece 2. The arrangement and the shape of the arc-shaped uneven parts 7 are optimized. That is, the arrangement and the shape of the uneven parts 7 are optimized by disposing the uneven parts 7 on the facing surface 6 longitudinally and laterally on the facing surface 6 of the anvil body 3.
