PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a composition, both used for soil fumigation. SOLUTION: Methyl iodide is used as a soil fumigant for effectively controlling plant pathogens, nematodes, bacteria, and weeds. Methyl iodide is employed in substantially the same manner as is typically used for methyl bromide, and is at least as effective as methyl bromide when used in comparable amounts.
